Nintendo has revealed that the next Xenoblade game is called Xenoblade Genesis, and it’s coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
The latest chapter in its beloved RPG series revealed new characters and locations in a rather lengthy trailer that seemed to show a mix of cinematics and gameplay. It both looks very Xenoblade and very new, showing some areas that look more like the kind of thing you’d see in a Fire Emblem game.
Xenoblade Genesis launches for Switch 2 at an unspecified point in 2027. Until then, you can see its reveal trailer below.
This was a nice, long look at a new corner of the Xenoblade universe that revealed a somewhat more whimsical fantasy setting than the series has seen so far. Despite having so much to show off, Nintendo’s official description for Xenoblade Genesis was quite brief.
“A new beginning for the Xenoblade series is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027,” the company said. “More details will be shared in the future.”
The last all-new game in the franchise, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, launched in 2022 for the original Nintendo Switch. Since then, we’ve gotten Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition in 2025, and in February of this year, that same game came to Switch 2. It’s been a steady stream of content for fans of the series that’s now set to continue with Xenoblade Genesis, even if we don’t necessarily know when its exact release date in 2027 is.
Meanwhile, also revealed during today’s presentation was the news that Xenoblade Chronicles 1 – 3 are all set to receive Switch 2 editions. The first game’s upgrade is available digitally today, with a physical version launching July 30, 2026. Digitall releases for the second and third games will then follow July 30, and December 3, respectively.
We’ll hopefully learn more about Xenoblade Genesis in the months ahead. Whiel we wait, you can see everything announced at the Nintendo Direct June 2026 here.
