In an interview with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, Yaga star Noah Reid shared what it was like working with Hudson Williams on the upcoming thriller series, based on showrunner Kat Sandler’s Yaga play.
Reid said Williams joined the cast right as the craze of Heated Rivalry had fully kicked in, and they were all “really excited he was coming on board.”
“When we found out Hudson was joining us on this show, Heated Rivalry fever was in full swing,” Reid said. “The people love Hudson, there’s no question.”
Sandler chimed in saying, “And we love Hudson.” To which, Reid responded, “Yeah, but that goes without saying, doesn’t it?” Followed by laughter.
“This show I think will really highlight Hudson’s ability as an actor,” Reid continued. “He’s a great actor and he’s a cinephile, and he does his research, and people are going to see a different side of him in this show for sure.”
Williams plays Henry Park, a young heir to a commercial fishery who goes missing, while Reid plays Rapp, a private investigator hired to find him.
Yaga is based on the Eastern European folktale of Baba Yaga, who is a witch with a complex moral code. She’s been depicted throughout folklore as both the villain and the wise woman, with the upcoming series leaning towards more horror and sex in the story.
When asked how Sandler would describe the overall tone of her Yaga series, she said, “Propulsive, sexy, funny, dark, and wildly surprising.”
Reid added some extra mystery for fans, saying, “There are so many twists and turns along the way; it really does keep you on your toes. In a half hour drama, things move very fast. It’s jam-packed and if people aren’t paying attention, they are gonna miss some stuff.”
