It seems like PlayStation is preparing to announce a game called Break In. A recent trademark filing spotted by a ResetEra user seems to reveal the title of an upcoming PlayStation game. There aren’t any other real details to scrape from the filing, but some have speculated that this could be a rebrand for Fairgames, the troubled live-service game in the works at Haven Studios. The game is an online third-person shooter about staging and executing heists, so Break In would be a fitting name.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier also made a cheeky comment on ResetEra, stylizing Break In as “Br€ak In,” making a joke about Fairgames’ stylized title, Fairgame$. Schreier’s joke fueled speculation from fans about the new game nonetheless. Fairgames has had a long and bumpy development, with reports previously noting that there were concerns over the state of the game during testing. Fairgames has also lost key talent, including studio founder Jade Raymond and creative director Daniel Drapeau, which raised eyebrows since the team has yet to release a game.
Fairgames has also been under increased scrutiny since its 2023 release as there has been a notable shift in how live-service games are perceived. The disastrous launch of Concord has many fearing that Fairgames could suffer a similar fate. So, it’s possible some kind of rebrand or internal reboot is happening in order to change the perception.
Either way, the timing of the filing doesn’t seem random. PlayStation will host a State of Play on June 2 — and will also be screened as free events at Alamo Drafthouses across the U.S. — and show off looks at upcoming games. The show is scheduled to be over an hour long, so there will be plenty to talk about. Given it has been years since we last saw Fairgames, now might be the time to start promoting it again in preperation of a release. Even if it’s not Fairgames, it seems possible that Break In could appear at this show given the timing of the trademark filing.
