Tom Hardy may not return for MobLand Season 3 after reportedly butting heads with cast and crew behind the scenes.
Deadline, Variety, and Puck have reported that The Dark Knight Rises and Venom actor has not been asked to return to the Paramount+ show ahead of its upcoming second season and its expected Season 3 renewal. While some shared that the actor has outright been fired, The Hollywood Reporter and TMZ sources stated that his future on the show is in limbo, though there are still discussions about the possibility of him being let go.
Each report alleged that Hardy’s troubles are the result of on-set clashes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser’s 101 Studios, as well as others involved with the show. Puck, which broke the news, also stated that he was frequently late to set, tried to change dialogue for the show, and grew displeased that MobLand was shifting its focus to an ensemble production. When Butterworth threatened to quit, Paramount allegedly seemed more interested in dropping Hardy instead.
In addition to Hardy as fixer Harry Da Souza, the Paramount+ series stars Pierce Brosnan (Conrad Harrigan), Joanne Froggatte (Jan Da Souza), Helen Mirren (Maeve Harrigan), Lara Pulver (Bella Harrigan), Geoff Bell (Richie Stevenson), and more. MobLand Season 1 premiered in March 2025 and sees Hardy’s character caught in the war of two London crime families.
“MobLand is about the Harrigans and Stevensons, two warring London crime families who clash in a kill-or-be-killed battle that threatens to topple empires and ruin lives,” an official description from Paramount says. “Caught in the crossfire is Harry Da Souza (Hardy), the street-smart ‘fixer’ as dangerous as he is handsome, who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide. As kingdom goes up against kingdom, lines will be crossed – and the only saving grace is a bet-your-life guarantee: family above everything.”
The writer’s room for MobLand Season 3 is said to be open, though another batch of new episodes has yet to be confirmed by Paramount. Season 2 is expected to premiere before the year is out, with Hardy’s work on those episodes already complete. It’s unclear how the show may deal with his absence if he is removed.
Reports that Hardy became a problematic force on the MobLand set follow rumors that he had also caused trouble during production on 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Co-star Charlize Theron said she “didn’t feel safe” while filming with him, with other excerpts from Kyle Buchanan’s Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road painting a similar picture from others involved with the film.
