Unreal Engine 6 Revealed

Unreal Engine 6 Revealed

Epic Games developer Psyonix has published a sneak peek at an updated version of Rocket League running in Unreal Engine 6, revealing a first look at its new logo.

The new coat of paint was revealed today at the Rocket League Championship Series Paris Major. It comes with a reveal trailer for an updated version of the studio’s popular action sports game, as well as a first look at Epic’s new, purple logo for Unreal Engine 6.

IGN is on the ground covering the event. You can see the Rocket League Unreal Engine 6 reveal trailer below.

Epic and Psyonix have not explained the specific advantages Unreal Engine 6 brings over its predecessor, with the reveal trailer mostly serving to show how the new version of the game will come with shiny new visuals for players to enjoy. It does, however, confirm that everything shown was “captured real-time in game.”

The reveal also marks the first time Epic has shown any footage of any game running in Unreal Engine 6. For comparison, Unreal Engine 5 was announced with a lengthier tech demo created specifically to show off the power of the new technology. While that experience never resulted in a full video game for players to get their hands on, Rocket League is very much real.

“What. A. Moment.,” a description for the Unreal Engine 6 reveal said. “The crowd reacts to the new era of Rocket League.”

It’s unclear when Unreal Engine 6 will be released. Meanwhile, as spotted by prominent Fortnite creator @ShiinaBR, the end of the new trailer appeared to suggest Epic will soon group Fortnite, Rocket League, and more into one hub app.

While today’s Rocket League Unreal Engine 6 trailer teases big changes going forward, much about the announcement itself leaves many details unclear. While we wait for Epic to share more about the future of its game engine update, you can read IGN’s new interview with the Psyonix team.
